For we walk by faith, not by sight.-2 Corinthians 5:7
Let's continue our study of the ABCs of faith. Why the ABCs of faith? First of all, faith pleases God. Next, God wants you to win in life, and faith is the key to continual victory and success. Finally, I believe that Jesus is coming soon and when He comes He expects to find faith on the earth (Luke 18:8). When He comes He wants to find Bible faith on this planet. In this series we are dealing with the ABCs—or the beginning of the faith life— teaching you how faith works and how to live by faith.
My objective is to make faith so simple that you will be able to live victoriously now and be prepared for His eminent return for a people of faith. In this lesson we will deal with the subject of Sense Knowledge as it relates to faith.
First let's refresh and review:
Hebrews 11:1 gives us the Bible definition of faith. Faith is the substance of the things you hope for or desire. Faith is evidence of the invisible.
We have said faith is not hope. Hope is always future, and faith is always now.
Next, we said faith is not mental assent. Now, I want to show you that Bible faith is not sense knowledge faith. Sense knowledge is the enemy of real Bible faith.
Understanding Sense Knowledge
Here is the thing—or illusive concept—that makes faith such a challenge: SENSE KNOWLEDGE. Sense knowledge is knowledge that is received through the five physical senses: seeing, feeling, tasting, touching and smelling. Bible Faith really has nothing to do with sense knowledge. Sense-knowledge faith is the enemy of Bible Faith. I am talking about faith in the promises of God, not just positive thinking or luck. Positive thinking is simply mental, and Bible faith is spiritual. Faith has nothing to do with luck. Faith is based on the eternal truth of God's Holy Word. If we can't have faith in that, what can we have faith in?
Let's take a closer look at Hebrews 11:1 from the amplified translation:
NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses]. Hebrews 11:1 (Amplified Bible)
Facts Not Revealed To The Senses
I really like the amplified translation: Faith perceives as real fact what is not revealed to the senses. Faith is based upon the facts of God's Word, not the facts of the natural world. For example, the economic crisis is a fact, but just because there is an economic crisis in the world doesn't mean there is one for the believer. You can by faith, choose not to participate in the crisis, because you are in the world but not of the world. You are a child of faith!
Faith perceives prosperity as a real fact, no matter what is being revealed to the senses by
Wall Street or the economic forecasts of the day.
"If you got 100 economists and laid them head to feet, they would not even reach a conclusion."—Anonymous
We are talking about faith in the Word and promises of God and not the world's economic system, which the Bible calls Babylon. It is going to eventually fall anyway, so don't build your financial life on it.
Show Me The Money!
2 Corinthians 5:7 says, for we walk by faith, not by sight. It could have read, we walk by faith and not by the senses. Sight is one of the five physical senses, but is used here as a representative of all of the senses.
Let me illustrate. If you are believing for money, you want to SEE the money (Show me da money...). But if you are believing for healing, you expect to FEEL the healing. You want to feel better, so the word, sight, in 2 Corinthians 5:7 could represent feelings.
Sight in this verse represents the senses. We could really say we walk by faith and not by sense knowledge. Why? Because sense knowledge is not limited to sight. Faith
perceives as real fact what is not revealed to the senses, not just the sense of sight.
The late John Osteen use to say that faith is the sixth sense (or a spiritual sense).
The key is to operate above the level of sense knowledge and believe the Word.
Faith puts you on a higher plain of life. There is just something royal and regal about a man or woman that truly lives by faith.
Confessing The Word
The Word is true no matter what you feel or sense. You don't change your confession because you don't see the money. I have confessed abundance when I did not have two quarters to rub together. Most believers today are dominated by sense knowledge, so they let sense knowledge rule their confession. When things are going contrary to prosperity is where faith’s confession really comes in.
No matter how you feel or how it looks, confess the Word. I have gone through some of the greatest tests of faith, financially, in my life while I just rose above sense knowledge and held fast to my confession. That is why confession is such a powerful and important part of faith. You are speaking what you believe and desire, not what you see. Saying what is makes nothing better. Speaking faith in the face of contradictory sense-knowledge evidence is what produces great results. Confessing the Word takes you above the realm of sense knowledge into the realm of revelation knowledge.
Finally, let's look at Hebrews 11:1 from theAmplified Bible again as we conclude:
NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].

I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to us the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of our understanding being enlightened; that we may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. In Jesus Name, Amen.
