Time to Re-Think Poverty!

“What the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” – W. Clement Stone –

Poverty rates for blacks and Hispanics greatly exceed the national average.

In 2014, 26.2 percent of blacks and 23.6 percent of Hispanics were poor, compared to 10.1 percent of non-Hispanic whites and 12 percent of Asians. Poverty rates are highest for families headed by single women, particularly if they are black or Hispanic. [Reference: http://www.npc.umich.edu/poverty/ ]

The poverty problem among minorities is much like the story of the chained elephant. Through training and conditioning, a huge elephant was held in one place by a chain around one leg attached to a stake in the ground. Why didn’t this giant animal simply tear the stake out of the ground or break the chain?

The reason is that the elephant has been chained this way since it was young, when it actually could not break free. Initially, the baby elephant tried and tried to break free, but it soon learned that it was futile. So, it gave up. From that point on, he knew that when he was chained to a peg, there was no point in trying to break free. Although the full-grown elephant could easily break free, he did not, because he did not believe that he could. His mind has been trained to believe that when he was chained, he could not get away.

Prosperity for minorities must start with training and conditioning to develop a prosperity consciousness.

Actually, what the mind is trained to believe, it can conceive. And what it can conceive, it can achieve. If you think negatively, you will get negative results. If you think limitation, you will be limited. If you believe you are not capable of achieving a certain result, then your mind will prove you right.

As humans our training controls our outcomes in life as well. If you have been trained to be chained, you will live a life of limitation and bondage, even though freedom is present. And so it is with the average minority today.

What does this mean?

Many are limited by trained behavior. If you think negatively, you will get negative results. If you think limitation, you will be limited. If you believe you are not capable of achieving a certain result, then your mind will prove you right. If you believe you deserve something better, you will get something better.

Eradicating poverty among blacks starts with a change of the mindset.

“Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself as succeeding. Hold this picture tenaciously. Never permit it to fade. Your mind will seek to develop this picture. Never think of yourself as failing; never doubt the reality of the mental image. That is most dangerous, for the mind always tries to complete what it pictures. So, always picture ‘success’ no matter how badly things seem to be going at the moment.”
